What Can You Expect from the 2018 Volvo XC60?

October 23rd, 2016 by

Volvo TiresIt’s been eight years since the Volvo XC60 was first released to critical acclaim, and we’re about to see the line take a bold step forward with the 2018 model. Spy shots have just been snapped, so we can finally let you in on what to expect from this upcoming luxury SUV when it hits our dealership in Billings.

2018 XC60 Body

The new XC60 will be more than a refresh. This is the first time we’ll see a comprehensive redesign of the vehicle, an exciting evolution from first-gen to next-gen.

Volvo is apparently taking that to heart, with even the platform of the XC60 changing. The new model will showcase the manufacturer’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, which has already been released with its S90 and V90 brethren. It’s a front-wheel platform with all-wheel drive available, and should be able to double-down on the XC60’s legendarily smooth and composed ride.

2018 XC60 Looks

As you might have expected, spy shots of the 2018 Volvo XC60 have only captured a model that is covered in heavy camouflage. Be that as it may, we can still discern that the upcoming model will be going smaller but bolder. You’ll also be able to pick out Volvo’s “Thor’s Hammer” headlights and familiar waterfall-style taillight.

From what we’ve seen of the interior, drivers can expect the same sort of treatment provided for the newest generation of XC90s, including a large vertically-stacked touchscreen and rotary-dial controller within what looks like an all-digital console.

2018 XC60 Power

The current 2017 XC60 carries either a 240-horsepower T5 or 302-horsepower T6 version of the same 2.0L four-cylinder engine, with outputs varying according to included engineering features.

We’re anticipating the same kind of set-up for the 2018 model, as well as a possible T8 variant, but the real news is that spy shots have indicated the presence of a charging port recess. This means a plug-in hybrid variant should be available for Billings and Lockwood drivers.
