Volvo Aims to Electrify Its Entire Lineup

April 29th, 2016 by

2016 Volvo XC90Billings and Lockwood drivers know Volvo is committed to the cutting edge, and they’ve just announced the intent to electrify their whole lineup. Their cars and SUVs continue to sell well, but a company that looks towards the future needs to look towards electrical power, and Volvo is doing just that. The 2016 Volvo XC90 has already set a high standard of excellence, so we’re thrilled to hear about new developments for this model, and the rest of Volvo’s offerings.

The Electrified Lineup

Volvo’s ambitious plans involve selling one million electrified cars by 2025. That doesn’t just cover completely electric models — hybrids, plug-ins, and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will all play a part. In fact, Volvo has announced the intent to offer at least two hybrid variants of every car in the lineup.

They’ve also announced plans to release their first battery-electric vehicle in 2019. We expect that the new range of 40-series cars — including the V40 and S40 — will have electrified versions alongside hybrid variants. With the plug-in XC90 already available and the PHEV S90 on its way, Volvo is clearly ahead of the curve. They’re even aiming to achieve “climate neutral operations” by 2025.

The 2016 Volvo XC90

Billings and Lockwood drivers who don’t want to wait for the entire Volvo lineup to embrace electrical power can still be satisfied thanks to the 2016 Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid. It features three drive modes to ensure that its twin engines provide a combination of efficiency and power. Modes include:

  • Pure: An electric-only mode that allows you to travel at speeds of up to 75 mph and achieve a full charge in just four hours.
  • Hybrid: Uses either the electric motor, the gas engine, or both, depending on current conditions.
  • Power: The all-new XC90 combines a state-of-the-art electric motor with a supercharged and turbocharged engine, resulting in up to 400 hp.
